In a highly anticipated rematch, undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue of Japan successfully defended his title against mandatory challenger Luis Nery of Mexico. Inoue delivered a dominant performance, knocking out Nery in the fifth round to retain his titles and extend his unbeaten record.
The fight started at a frenetic pace, with both fighters exchanging heavy blows. Nery showed no fear and landed some clean punches early on. However, Inoue's superior speed and power proved too much for Nery to handle. Inoue began to take control of the fight in the second round, landing a series of hard shots that visibly hurt Nery.
In the fifth round, Inoue unleashed a devastating left hook that sent Nery crashing to the canvas. Nery was unable to beat the count, and Inoue was declared the winner by knockout. The official scores were 116-111, 118-109, and 118-109, all in favor of Inoue. Bad Left Hook unofficially scored the fight 118-109.
With this victory, Inoue extends his record to 24 knockouts in 27 fights. He is now considered one of the pound-for-pound best boxers in the world.
