Swiatek Moves Closer To Third Straight Roland Garros Title

Iga Swiatek Continues Dominance, Reaches French Open Final

Swiatek Moves Closer to Third Straight Roland Garros Title

Top-seeded Iga Swiatek continued her dominance over Coco Gauff to reach the French Open final on Thursday. Swiatek, the two-time defending champion, defeated Gauff in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to move closer to a third straight title at Roland Garros.

Swiatek's Victory Extends Dominance over Gauff

Swiatek has now won all five of her meetings with Gauff, including the past two in Grand Slam semifinals. In their previous meeting at the 2022 French Open, Swiatek also defeated Gauff in straight sets. The Polish player has not dropped a set against Gauff in any of their matches.

Swiatek's Road to the Final

Swiatek has had a dominant run to the French Open final, winning all of her matches in straight sets. She has not lost a set since the third round of the Australian Open in January. Swiatek is now 35-0 in 2023, the longest winning streak on the WTA Tour since Serena Williams' 34-match winning streak in 2013.

Gauff's Impressive Performance

Despite the loss, Gauff had an impressive run to the semifinals. The 19-year-old American defeated three seeded players, including Belinda Bencic, Karolina Pliskova, and Martina Trevisan, before falling to Swiatek. Gauff is now ranked 15th in the world and is one of the most promising young players on the WTA Tour.

Upcoming Final

Swiatek will face the winner of the other semifinal match between Jessica Pegula and Daria Kasatkina in the final on Saturday. Swiatek is the heavy favorite to win the title, but both Pegula and Kasatkina are capable of pulling off an upset.
