2023 Season Overview

The 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship will mark the 74th season of the world's top-level single-seater auto racing competition, and the 16th under the Concorde Agreement. The championship will consist of a record-breaking 24 races, starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 5th and concluding with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 26th.

Max Verstappen's Dominance

The 2023 season was dominated by one man and one team: Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing. Verstappen won 15 races and finished on the podium in all but three, securing his second consecutive Drivers' Championship with a staggering 146-point lead over his nearest rival. Red Bull Racing also claimed the Constructors' Championship, their fifth in six years.

Controversial Moments

Despite Verstappen's dominance, the 2023 season was not without its controversies. The Belgian Grand Prix was marred by a chaotic start that resulted in multiple crashes, while the Japanese Grand Prix was shortened due to heavy rain and poor visibility. The season also saw a number of questionable decisions by race officials, some of which were later overturned on appeal.

New Tracks and Returning Favorites

The 2023 calendar featured several new tracks, including the Las Vegas Grand Prix and the Qatar Grand Prix. The Chinese Grand Prix, which had been absent from the calendar since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, also made its return. However, the Russian Grand Prix was canceled due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Technical Changes

The 2023 season saw several technical changes designed to improve the quality of racing. These included a new aerodynamic package aimed at reducing dirty air and increasing overtaking, as well as a ban on tire blankets. The cars also became more sustainable, with the introduction of 100% biofuels.

Looking Ahead to 2024

The 2023 season has come to an end, but the excitement is already building for the 2024 campaign. With new teams and drivers set to enter the fray, and a host of new challenges ahead, the future of Formula One looks brighter than ever.
